BACKGROUND

Sebei Elgon Co-operative Union was started in 1964 as a member based Organization and officially registered under the co-operative Societies act 1991 and the cooperative societies regulations 1992. The Union was registered by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives as a secondary cooperative society with registration No: 2055 on the 10th, June the same year (1964). The Union’s headquarters is in Chepsukuroi cell, Chepsukuroi ward, Central Division, Kapchorwa Municipality. Besides the head office the union has properties in different geographical locations; namely Kabyoyon farm measuring 1,766 acres and comprising of a guest house, Stores, Combine harvesters, Tractors and trees, Ten acres of land in Kobil, Tingey County, Plot in Sironko Town Council comprising of a dilapidated maize mill, several plots in Central Division Kapchorwa Municipality, a factory in Kapchorwa among others all valued at 4.8 billion as of 1994. SECU is one of the few Unions that still have its assets intact in spite of the problems it has been going through since 1997.

The Union has eighty six( 86) primary societies spread across the 3 Districts of Sebei Sub-region (Kapchorwa, Kween and Bukwo) from which membership is derived and has been supporting the Union at grass root level

Our mission

To support Rural Producer Organizations (RPOs) to transform its members from subsistence to commercial farming through provision of services that enhance development among house holds for improved incomes as well as livelihood on a sustainable basis.
